Beautiful, best of '05 (so far...)

I thought this film was very beautiful and amazing with great, haunting dreamlike quality to it...With this film, Mr.Kim shows he can really direct well...( I also liked "Spring, Summer..." and "The Isle" but anyone could make these locals look great...)
I hope (but highly doubt) that this can win the foriegn film Oscar...

I haven't seen the Isle, but I love Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring. In comparison to this film? I'd say imagine a Buddhist fable done in the same style as this. Like 3iron, it is beautiful in it's simplicity (this is in no way a negative comment, I agree with the origional poster that this is the best film of the year, but I haven't seen King Kong yet...

Spring, Summer uses similar devices to Bin-Jip like sparce dialogue, elements of mysticism, and emphasis on images. Unlike Bin-Jip, they serve the narrative and make it more accessible. In other words, whereas Bin-Jip is purely and boldly cinematic, Spring, Summer uses cinematic devices to move the story. I think this makes Spring, Summer a better film overall, but I still prefer Bin-Jip. Either way, you are never going to go wrong with Kim.

The Isle has proven difficult to find even though I live in Korea.

I agree that this was one of the best movies of the year. I saw Spring, Summer, etc at Hollywood Video, but decieded to watch Amores Perros (excellent movie!) instead. On my next trip to Hollywood Video I'll be sure to rent Spring, Summer.
