I loved the movie it is really strange...but it touched me so. But there are strange things in it. But mayeb if i wantched it again i will understand more. This kinds of movies u have to watch more than once and u will get a good review about what it wants to tell. But what was so astonishing the arabic song he plays it all the time. I live in egypt and i understand arabic and it is a very beautiful song. But why in arabic? not in korean...or even english. But i think that everyone doesnt understand arabic nor korean will think that this song is in korean coz the movies is already in korean. Anyway i just wanted to say what i felt... see u

I saw Bin Jip yesterday in Amsterdam and loved it. A question about the arabic song.
Could the artist be Natacha Atlas? I thought I recognised her voice.
Could anyone tell me?

I saw the movie yesterday, and went searching for the soundtrack right away. I can't find anything, but here I read you know the song he always puts on. Do you (or anyone else!) maybe know who's song this is? 'cause I really was touched by it. thanks.

I was right, the song is indeed from Natacha Atlas. You can find it on natachaatlas.net. The title of the song is "Gafsa" and you can find the lyrics plus translations in several languages! You can even listen to a very short sample on amazon.com. Look under the album name "Halim".
I will run to the shop first thing tomorrow and buy it I think.

Thanks so much for this info. I will buy if i can find the album:) I am very happy to find the singer's name, i was searching for it for 2 hours on the net:) I think film impressed me with this song... although i dont understand any arabic, it touches my soul...

You can also check out her myspace page and check out the entire song for free...that's what I ended up doing to make sure I had the right song. Thanks for clarifying the song title for me!

The song is by Natasha Atlas and is called "Halim Gafsa" or something like that. I have downloaded it and listen to it all the time.
Its magnificent as is the film.
Kim Ki Duk is a great director. I have seen 3 of his films,very different to each other, and liked all 3. Violence is quite present in his films, but not in this one.

It is already said in a post above yours, but I will tell you. The name of the song is "Gafsa" be the singer Natacha Atlas. the song is from the album "Halim". Regards :)

Edit: I am asking if someone could post the lyrics of that song here? Because i could not find it- two hours spent on the net searching for these lyrics and everywhere I found something about that song there always was such a message: "Sorry, but there are no lyrics".
And now I want to know what are the lyrics of that song. So, please, if anyone knows- tell me :)

I thought that "not understanding" the song was the whole point. After all, the movie is talking(how ironic) about a universal tongue. And certainly the music than the lyrics are important. So not knowing the lyrics might be a better choice. At least that's what I'm going to do.
And yeah, great song. Reminds me of Turkey's singer Sezen Aksu. Sorry to bring that up, it just reminded me of her.

Makes me come to think of the use of a Swedish song (in swedish) by the same director in his earlier movie "The Bad Guy". Came as a big of a suprise for me that I guess the arabic song for you. Nastasha Atlas was fairly well known up here in Scandinavia some 10 years ago btw. She had a record out at that time that was a bit of a hit up here. I remember liking it quite a lot.

Yes I wanted to say the exact same thing! Bad Guy ended with a very beautiful song that was definitely NOT Korean. I loved it! The same here!
I guess he just chooses excellent music, no matter where it comes from! And it doesn't matter, it's beautiful and doesn't need to be understood. In the movie bad guy also almost nobody speaks and it's not necessary! Both excellent films!

When I heard that music I immediately thought of Sezen Aksu! I asked my friend, "what is that, it really sounds Turkish."

Apparently, according to the other posts, the music was Arabic and now I feel like an idiot because I thought I'd recognize Arabic when I heard it. Oh well...

I loved loved loved the movie. I think choosing an arabic song is actually more appropriate than any korean song because this movie has so few words, especially between the two main actors, which i thought made the movie so much simpler and more powerful. Putting in a song with korean lyrics would undermine that. This particular song also has a whimsical and ghost-like air to it that fits the story very well.

I saw the movie awhile ago {great movie} and I thought it was a Korean song....Then I watched the commentary and found out I was wrong. He says the reason he put the song in there is because he that it was beautiful and he couldn't fit it in his earlier films. There is a lot of great info on the commentary, you should check it out.
