16 Days to Shoot?

According to the 'trivia' section on IMDb, director Kim Ki-duk wrote '3-Iron' in 30 days and spent 16 days shooting it. This is a brilliant film, so off-kilter, quirky, quizzical, mystical, philosphical, etc. that you can't wait to see what's going to happen next. When is the last time you were so intrigued and absorbed by such on-the-surface simplicity?

When you consider that a typical Hollywood movie takes about two years to write, produce and prepare, and another year to shoot/edit, you'd be hard-pressed not to conclude that Kim's achievement is astonishing. This is a serious filmmaker who shows you that you can make great cinematic art on a shoestring and still make it a riveting experience. I have tremendous respect for Kim. Indie filmmakers, are you watching his minimalist techniques at work here?

It's true. He goes with one rehearsal & one take. One year of 2004, He won 2004 Berlin for Samaria and won 2004 Vennis for 3-iron, quck and busy collecting prizes and making films. I'm not kidding. He's just geniusly quick.
