They hit the girl in the car with the golf ball?

reply

It's been a while since I saw this film, but if I remember rightly since they left the house together, he had been repeatedly hitting the golf ball attached to a tree. Hitting the golf ball represents him repeating his anger towards her husband. She lets him do this for a while as she too is angry, but soon she realises it is best to put the anger aside and move on. He takes no notice of this and continues to take the anger out on her husband by hitting the ball, and in the end the girl gets hit by the ball and presumably dies. By not letting go of his anger, only something bad can come of it.

I never saw it that way. It totally makes sense. O_O

Good point, now I understand why she kept standing in front of him.

Nice interpretation. For me it was more about him learning that his actions have consequences. Life-changing consequences.
I totally agree that golf represents violence. It represents her husband. The girl literally takes a stand against it. But she needed him as a catalyst.
While he, until that point, had not really engaged with her but only dragged her along, he needed this drastic event to understand that his carefree life without responsibilities does indeed have consequences. People, women specifically, will get hurt.
