Did this creep anyone the hell out?
I love this film, and think it's beautiful; I'm especially glad for it introducing me to Ki-Duk's canon, and would recommend it to just about anyone. But I just remember being overwhelmingly... Creeped out when I watched it the first time. It was around the prison scene, when the main character learnt to be silent (or turned into a ghost, depending on how literally you take it), that I felt the hairs on my neck stand up. I can't really piece together why; it might even be something as primal as the thought of having someone behind me, and me not knowing.
Added to this, the scenes with the 3-Iron are truly gruelling. There's something about the sparse and blank nature of the violence that always makes me flinch, much more so than the sanitised, "cool" violence you get in Hollywood films. It feels real.
Just wondered if anyone else felt the same way, really. But don't get me wrong; this is a masterful piece of film-making.
