This is one of the decade's best movies
I will never understand such hatred this movie has, the decisiveness that split critics when it first came out. As a movie, this is pure joy: eye candy for the eyes and ears. The movie works so well at humanizing historical figures in a way no movie like it has done before or since (maybe Amadeus). The focus on Antoinette as a sympathetic character is so beautiful and simple, there isn't a dull moment.
No, it's not a historical accuracy, but as an exercise in storytelling, this is an amazing accomplishment. Surely it's Sophia Coppola's best movie (even better than Lost in Translation in my mind). Why do people dislike this movie so much?
