Myrtle and Medea

I just saw "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" for the first time last night, and I'm a little confused about Medea's relationship to Myrtle. If Myrtle is Helen's mother, and Medea is Helen's grandmother, does that make Medea Myrtle's mother? She doesn't seem old enough. Was Medea Helen's father's mother? If so, was Helen's father much younger than her mother? That seems to be the only way that the ages could work out. Don't mean to be picky - just curious. I know that the movie is based on Tyler Perry's play, and that there's a lot of background info to be found in the Medea plays. Does anyone know?

yeah that is a little bit confusing...

all i know is that helen was madea's dead husband's grandaughter. so HELEN'S mother MYRTAL may have been HIS daughter, not MADEA's. or helen's FATHER may have been his SON. either way, i'm thinking that MYRTLE has no relation to MADEA.

2nd poster gave answer but to add ~ Helen was mentioned to been Madea's husbands grandchild so in line that means no blood relation between her or Myrtle. Which if you notice within other scenes ~ makes since. Myrtle never called Madea mother or even spoke to her as if she was her daughter. Also Joe would not have tried to flirt with Myrtle if they were actually supposed to be related. True some ppl are crazy like that but doubt Tyler P would want us to have that visual of a great uncle flirting with his kin.

Lost me w/ first line since I don't recall even mentioning Cora. But if you ever kept up w/ TP's plays then u would know that he meant Madea to portray a grandmother figure to these young characters.

Only issue ppl had w/ Myrtle from movie vs play was the actress playing her was older than TP, which caused viewers confusion.
