Didn't you get the feeling that Joey really loved Barb or at least had a huge crush on her? I honestly cannot remember if that was ever directly addressed on the show, but he looked at her so lovingly and talked to her with such respect every time they were together. I'm sure she seemed like the perfect woman & wife after having to put up with Wanda's crazy ways.
shareYes, I can see that to an extent. I'm not sure if he was in love with her, but he definitely seemed to have a fascination with her. In his eyes, Barb was a fancy, sophisticated woman, especially in comparison with Wanda and the compound women. They have a scene alone together in season one, and Joey seems quite taken with Barb and becomes very emotional.
That's a theme that runs throughout the series, compound people coveting the things Bill and his family have.
