5th season excellent but definitely dark

Very risky move to do that but very bold, too. The interesting thing about the last season was how they presented most of the major characters as slightly unstable.

Season 4 and 5 were very very different a lot of people have them as the worst 2 seasons. same thing happened with Six feet under it started out as a dark comedy drama but by season 3 and 4 it was very dark and depressing.

I think with Big Love Killing off Roman really hurt the show they wanted to go down another pass, they turned Bill unlikable, Marge went off the rails from submissive to dominant kissing Ben fake marriage and then they even added in her lying about her age?? then barb goes completely downhill with her beliefs for woman. and Nikki has a change of image in a complete reversal.

and Bills Mother goes from cutting off someone's arm, to having dementia the next time we see her.

They also changed the theme song opening at the start to represent it being more dark.

season 4 and 5 just had to many changes in cast to many character changes got to serious

They didn't kill him because they wanted to go another path. Albey was Roman all over again. It's not as if Roman's death deprived him of an evil villain or anything.

hey turned Bill unlikable

at what point was Bill likable? He was a self-righteous entitled prick who was treating everyone around him as inferior.

Marge went off the rails from submissive to dominant

OMG! A woman who's not submissive?! Call the cops

then they even added in her lying about her age??

That was only to show the extent of Bill's hypocrisy. In so many ways, he was just like Roman. He just believed he was superior but his life on the compound followed him around even after he got kicked out. He just never realized it.

then barb goes completely downhill with her beliefs for woman.

Believing women don't have to be slaves of their husbands and that they also have spirituality and religious rights is going "completely downhill"? That's about the only season she was doing anything interesting.

I agree with you on Barb. I would have liked to see more of her fighting to be an equal. Actually, I would have loved to see any of them completely lose their faith and rebel against the religion.

Too harsh on Bill. He hurt some people along the way, but Bill was always well meaning and devoted to his family. He always pushed forward and went for what he believed in. I give him props for that.

I thought overall, all of the characters were well developed through all 5 seasons.
