The Writers destroyed the Nicki character after season 3

They destroyed Nicki and the show after season 3.

I don't think the Writers prepared themselves for the vacuum that would occur after Romans death. In season 4 they were all over the place and they tried to replace Roman with Tommy Flute, Marilyn, Alby and J.J. They were trying to do too much.

In the process they ruined the Nicki character who went from this cunning character to a whiner about Bill and screaming about J.J.

I would have liked to have seen Nicki work behind the scenes to remove Alby as the Prophet and if Bill said no then she convinces Wanda to get Joey to replace Roman. Even Sevigny said season 4 was awful. Here's the article where she called season 4 awful.

I agree. I think the show went South after season 3 and Romans death.

She did a good job of acting, but Half of. Nikki's lines in the last season could have been replaced with a chicken clucking. That's what they sounded like to me.

I agree with the OP 100%.

I thought Nicki was awful in the first season but she still intrigued me. In the second season I warmed to her character and by season 3 I was flat out rooting for her even though she still had major behavioral issues. Seasons 4 and 5 though there was so much regression with her character it was super disappointing. When she made the comment to Barb about how Sarah had "defiled" herself by having premarital sex and that Barb wasn't a fit influence for Cara Lynn because of this--she was basically dead to me at that point. She never redeemed herself and even her Safety Net sideplot didn't really work as we never saw her successfully go about helping any of the women and her attempts were clumsy and misguided. Lura got herself out and stayed out with Bill's help.

Adaleen was another character on the show who was ultimately disappointing. It was like they didn't know what to do with her after Roman. For heaven's sake they had her running around in the fifth season moving mountains and taking hormones so that she could sustain the pregnancy of a child she knew was a product of sibling incest. It was too ridiculous for words and showed just how little the writers gave a damn at that point.

Nicki was a horrible character from day one onward.

I wonder if Sevigny's tendency to give interviews trashing her latest projects has anything to do with her extremely light schedule of late.

Although it might also have something to do with the fact that about 98% of the characters she has ever played have been complete reprehensible bitches.

At some point you gotta tell your agent, "hey, why don't we look for a role once in a while in which I'm not a complete bitch?"
