SPOILER: Do you think the last season of BL tanked its rerun value?

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW THE FINAL SEASON COMES OUT.

Do you think the abrupt, depressing and basically kind of brutal way Big Love ended pretty much derailed its repeat viewing potential on HBO or other networks?

In the first couple of seasons BL is framed pretty much as a light-hearted family comedy (although certainly with some doses of adult sex comedies thrown in).

But then it ends with the lead character getting shot in the street. I wonder if HBO has done some viewership testing with people who did watch the series who, when they watch early-season reruns of the first couple seasons, can't really buy the light and playful tone of the series since they know it ends up with Bill getting shot in the street.

Errrr... I dunno dude. I thought all of the seasons of Big Love were VERY dark. People routinely have twisted relations, and there's quite a few times people get shot.

Speaking only for me, I don't like rewatching it due to how it ended. My husband and I got together with friends every week to watch this show. Between seasons, we would get together and watch reruns on the DVDs we bought. I couldn't stand Bill and I kept waiting for him to get his. The series ended with him pretty much being a martyr and the hero. He never got his. If I knew it was going to end without Bill ever learning his lesson, I wouldn't have gotten involved and I now no longer desire to watch the show.

He was murdered in cold blood. He got his. Maybe he learned his lesson bleeding to death in front of his house?

I treasure the reruns.

Not at all. All good things must come to an end.

I really don't know what people expected from the ending.

to the OP, yes i do think so

i did not like the last season, i felt it went off the rails. the whole senate thing and all that crap. just didn't seem a natural continuation of the earlier story

but i must say i miss the series a lot. it has stayed on my mind even now years later. every time i hear the beach boys song it floods me with nice memories from the series. i kinda got attached to the story so it was bittersweet to see it end
