If some believe plural marriage is God's will and plan......
how do they explain the fact that plan is not mathematically possible to carry out? There are not several women available for every man to marry.

shareEhh, when this came up men died a lot since there was always some war or stupid sh!t going on (granted women died a lot in child birth too so whatevs) so probably was far less of an issue until recent times when survival rates increased significantly.
shareThis. When there is a significant population imbalance due to war/famine/disease, polygamy can provide stability to a small population and can actually protect women and children from abject poverty.
But no, it doesn't work in a large, modern population as the majority marriage and family model.
They always talk about how they're the chosen ones. It isn't supposed to be a fair system that's why they try to twist it and make it seem like they're the elite.
shareThey throw "troublemakers" out of the compound, sometimes on the flimsiest of excuses. In this show, Bill was thrown out at 14! and he was far from the only one. Voila! Less men to compete for wives.
This is a real-life thing, apparently; boys are tossed out of places like this and end up being homeless and called "Lost Boys." This topic is explained more thoroughly several seasons in to this show.
That way there's enough to go around for everyone!!
shareBut it only takes one man to impregnate several women. Really, what polygamy does if practiced en masse is take women from poor husbands and match them with rich ones. So like someone else said, kind of survival of the fittest. The poor men get the raw end of the deal, taking on the wife deficit, while the women who would be married to them instead reproduce under the umbrella of the very wealthy. Roughly the same amount of children are had, but they are arranged more according to wealth.
