Bill entered Polygamy for money and sex

I know Bill acted like it was his calling to live the Principle but I don't think so. I think he convinced himself of this.

He was happily married to Barb and he actually spoke out against Polygamy. Barb got sick and Nicki helped Nurse her back to health. He saw an opportunity to start a business by marrying Nicki and getting a loan from Roman. I think he even admitted this to Barb and said he talked her into it out of selfishness.

Margene started out as a straight sex toy for Bill. If you watch Big Love the Beginning, you can see why Bill was blinded by lust for Margene.

Favorite movie of all time - SCARFACE

Sorry this is late

I agree, and during the first 2 seasons it was a topic touched on by Bill and Roman from brief discussions, it appears that Bill needed Roman's help with medical costs for Barb (she's even seen thanking him for his help financially that he gave during her treatment.) Then Nicki was sent to help care for Barb and Roman 'sold' Nicki as part of the deal.
Alby tells her this to her face. Seems likely since Nicki was unsealed from her first husband after running away from him and Roman would want her gone, 'cast-off'.

Bill got into "The Principle" for the same reason Joseph Smith started his cult - Money, Women, and Power.

I agree with you said about Joseph Smith. He was such a con man and I cannot believe people bought into his crap!! He used God to justify his actions claiming to be a prophet. Total jerk to put it mildly....

I agree with you. His true love was Barb and Margene was just a sex toy; Nikki...I never understood that relationship. Half the time, he seemed annoyed with the situation of being in a polygamous marriage. I think Bill was selfish to do this to Barb. It was pretty apparent in the first season that Barb and Bill regretted getting into this situation....
