Why did they set this movie so long ago?

I know the original is an old movie, but the remake and the remake's prequel could have put the story in modern times. I know they wanted to have the whole vietnam war back story but instead of having the Hewitts being big fans of the Vietnam war, they could have made them big supporters of the Iraq war. Instead of them freaking out over a burned draft card, they could have discovered an anti-Bush button. In fact having the Hewlett's be hardcore Bush fans would have made sense since Bush is from Texas.

The remake was set in 1973 simply to be like the original. And probably to make people think it was a true story.

They're planning a modern set reboot. Hope its made, and not a remake filled with torture porn.

They're going to remake it again???

Bush is from Connecticut and his father is from Massachusetts. I don't know why they claim to be Texans.

To the world you may just be somebody, but to somebody you may just be the world.

Good thing they didn't update them, then we didn't have to have that tired "Oh, the cell doesn't have a signal out here" line.

...just sayin'...

You've probably seen it by now, but no TEXAS CHAINSAW 3-D is not a remake. But it was set in modern times, even if that did cause a huge continuity error with the original movie. :/

Well 3D sucked hard
Give me the Platinum Dunes duo any day. Those were actually good with developed characters and talented actors and actresses. Leatherface and the Sawyers were also VILLAINS and not heroes

I don't mind it at all, actually. If it weren't for the Vietnam subplot, you wouldn't even be able to tell. That's the only thing that gives away that this movie is set in 1969.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

I think in a lot of ways, this story wouldn't work in modern times. Horror movies are trickier to write now that we have cell phones, GPS, all of that stuff. It was way easier to be isolated from the world before all of that technology.

For me setting it in 1969 totally worked. I was a little kid back then, but remember it as a really weird year. And it was a decade where we all lost our innocence so to have it end with something really horrible happening in Texas makes sense.

And no, a reboot of TCM in present times totally and completely would not work because of cell phones and GPS and the lack of a completely secluded part of Texas anymore.
