So boring

This is right up there with Jarhead is one of the worst war movies ever made. It is a complete and utter bore with Zero connection to any of the main characters. There is no real flow to this movie, being that the flashbacks destroy all narrative. I understand and respect the soldiers and the concept was good, but the execution and overall life of this movie is pathetic. I cannot believe this scored a 7 on this site, as it is no more than a 5 at best. Standard, boring, uninspired drivel.

It's not a war movie. It used the war as a backdrop for the story of three Marines dealing with their hero status in the US after the returned from Iwo Jima.

I'm not an actor. I just play one on TV.

This film is restricted. Did your mommy and daddy actually let you watch it? Did they also let you stay up late to watch it?

I'm obliged to agree with the original poster. This movie had no energy; the vanilla ice cream of WWII dramas. I could sit through Kagemusha no problem, but this was just too much for me. Booooooring!

Agreed, this was such a dissapointing film.

Personally I can't imagine anyone finding this film "BORING" . I thought it was brilliant, there is at times more power in subtlety than in bravura and this is a shining example. The movie had fascinating characters which easily drew you into their personal drama and really affect you emotionally.. The guys were deeply moving, I imagine moreso than the real "heroes" but therein lies the magic of Hollywood and the actors were first rate in their portrayals. This movie is worthy of a higher score than a 7, it is indeed one of CLINT EASTWOOD's finest masterpieces.
This film isn't about WAR but about how the war affected the lifes of the men who fought for our country and died for their friends, protecting them.
The film has great flow and the flashbacks make it whole rather than destroying the narrative.

You are so right...this movie really affected me emotionally.
I suppose I'm maybe a little too sensible about dramas, and even more when the story really happened.
The friendship of the guys was really moving, and their efforts for one another's was amazing.
When I found out what happened to "Iggy" ('cause they don't really say it in the movie) I cried for two hours, because I cant understand how people can do such atrocities.
Also the end sequence, when Doc already old and sick says to his son that he reminds Iggy and the rest of the guys swimming in the beach, playing like kids, after planting the original flag, was just...I think, even knowing they actually died, was the right form of remind them all...
I cant imagine what they suffered, I think its a really great story, and it really touched me in my soul...

How could this be boring? How about "Shakespeare in Love"? An Oscar-winner that had terrible acting. That was boring. I guess a film has to have lots of SPFX like the crappy "Avengers" or "Battleship", which are meaningless films making lots of money. I guess "Gone With the Wind" is boring as well. This explains why few quality films are made anymore.

here you are complaing about the movie when you really shouldnt be talking. this movie was amazing. besides if it was such a bore then why did you watch it?

reply

Boring is one thing but dumb and depressing is another. This film was all of the above.
