Who was the actor playing the armless character in the movie?

I think it was Stark Sands playing a character called Walter Gust. If I remember correctly he's the kid in one of the flashbacks who's with a wounded Doc Bradley when the two see a crippled airforce bomber coming in to land on Iwo. It's been years since I watched Flags so I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure he's the one because the older version of Gust describes how the taking of Iwo ultimately saved lives and that's when we get the flashback of Doc Bradley and this kid watching the bomber come in.
