Iggy and Doc, were they supposed to be lovers?
Because no one else seems to think anything about it. Am I alone on this...?
I live in Texas, the home state of George W. Bush. I apologize.

No I think they were just good friends. Iggy being so young, Bradley took him under his wing. Bradley kept remembering Iggy's disaperance because he felt responisble, leaving Iggy alone in the hole. Also, what the japs did to Iggy was proberly deeply disturbing, and hanuted Bradley for many years after.

I can see that, but I can't help but think Iggy was flirting... of a sort during the haircut.

WHAT?!? Listen, these were young men, teenagers or barely out of their teens. They were mostly small town or rural kids suddenly thrust into a violent world far away from everyone and everything they'd ever known. Iggy's just trying to make small talk and hopefully befriend Bradley. His awkwardness was a facet of his natural behavior. He was immature and a bit of a hick.
"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."
In the book it says what happens to iggy. It was deeply disturbing. And I'm sure doc would never be able to forget.
No, they weren't - go read James Bradley's book upon which the film is based.
shareBradley has a girlfriend waiting for him back home, whom he married when he did finally make it home. Im sure Iggy may have had a girlfriend waiting for him as well.

Another ignoramus assumption from an uniformed OP. Back in those days, guys could be pals and would walk around with their arms around their shoulders as such. Because of the heightened sensitivity today to even the insinuation that you might be gay for doing as much, straight guys won't do it for that very reason.
However, it gets old reading posts by people hoping to so desperately find a gay factor in every movie that is released. There are enough movies out today that insert the PC, obligatory gay character in the plot (even when it's unnecessary), so that should keep you "happy" enough...
I second that!

I saw it too, and I didn't get that. I think people are a bit too gay sensitive (by that I mean they have to find the gay link in everything they watch) and interpret what they see through a 2009 prism. Thats BS.
ANd the PC I was referring to was the one of how Hollywood seems to include gay characters in almost every movie they release today. Thats BS, too.
If you watched the movie seriously, that notion would seem pretty far-fetched. Doc was clearly not so inclined, and I think Iggy was just young, awkward and looking for companionship (as an 18 year old heading to what he realized may be his death). In any case, whatever interests either of them had, if you watched the film, you would realize there was no private space on that ship or on the island to engage in anything of the sort.

Caring for a friend who happens to be of the same sex of you does not make you gay - it makes you human.
.
Yes, you are alone on this. I would say this is a film where there is pretty much zero homosexual undertones. If you argue there are, then you have an agenda.
shareHomosexuality wasn't invented until 1969 in San Francisco. And it didn't escape into the general population until 1993.
Even today, the only gay soldiers have to be bussed in.

You are alone on this. I also think that your question is not about Iggy and Doc, but a fantasy about Ryan Phillippe and Jamie Bell. I'm as gay as Christmas and I got nothing like a gay relationship out of these two characters.
