That decapitation scene.

When Ira sees his friend run ahead of him, get blown up, and then turns around to see the man's decapitated head, was I the only one who thought they saw the mouth moving slightly and a sort of very soft groaning sound...?

I thought that was really disturbing even when I first watched it, would he have even been alive at that point and able to groan? I know in the French Revolution decapitated nobles were said to have remained alive for a few seconds, but that was a razor sharp cut from a guillotine, not the result of a shell ripping you to shreds, either way it creeped me out.

i did not hear a gasp but it also seemed to me that either the jaw or his eyelids made a slight move

The only thing worse than a film critic.....is the average loser that tries to act like one!!!

When you cut the chickens head she keeps kicking for another 5 min.

I'll attest to the chicken thing. I saw it occur a few times when my great-aunt would kill a chicken in her backyard. Being a city kid, the first time I saw it, I ran like the Flash! Especially when the headless, arm-flapping body walked toward me...

May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?

... either way it creeped me out.
It was supposed to. The film is not glorifying war, whilst it does hold its participants (in general) in the highest regard. I think it's aiming to depict the kind of traumatic events that had lifelong psychological impacts on people such as Ira and his comrade,s who survived the military battles, only to face more personal ones after returning home. 🐭
