wasnt it a big intelligence failure


how come such a huge bunch of afghani fighters came up so close up to the russian military area without anyone knowing it ...arent there anyone watching. atleast some survielince that such a huge group of enemy soldiers dont come too close to the unit..overall the movie was great though. great acting and emotions.

That's why they called 'em 'ghosts' in the first place. They know the terrain, know how to get close unoticed. We're talking biig mountainous area's here. Even with chopper surveilance whole battalions may slip through the lines. But all they had where a few sentries and guard posts.
Attacks like that are still quite common in Afghanistan.

oh really ... i kind a feel sorry for the russians there. tried to do some good to that country but that wasnt meant to be i guess

It's kind of ironic how people tend to kill eachother trying to do good :p.

I think the Russians were more interested in protecting the stability in their own country and less in any form of high morals. You don't send your country's young men to die for that kind of bollocks :).
