It's very biased, sure there were real heroes in this pointless war and not all the Soviet soldiers commited atrocities, but it was widespread in the Soviet-Afghan war. This movie shows very little of it, apart from the village bombardment. Not half as good as the movies it's compared to, namely Platoon, Full Metal Jacket & Apocalypse Now.
At least with these movies about Vietnam the directors don't shy away from the fact the army they're telling the story from the point of view of aren't perfect.
Did you not see the part where they booby trapped the dead ragheads body? What about the gangbanging of the woman? Does't exactly make you think these guys are good ole boys fae the homecountry does it?
And while you're at it, don't forget to show the brutal torture and beheading of captured Russian soldiers by the Muslim dukhi's. That's what the scene was about when the dukhi commander yelled "Surrender! You'll live!", and Khokhol responds by firing his grenade launcher. The Afghani's tortured and murdered every Russian soldier they captured. They proudly filmed many beheadings. There are even "instructional videos", where a dukhi commander demonstrates the fine art of beheading a Russian soldier in the most brutal and savage fashion.
Before talking about war crimes, all Americans should be sure to imagine themselves as the star attraction in a Muslim beheading video, painfully gurgling their way through 2 or 3 minutes of inhuman hell to a heinous death. And, of course, all Americans should also be sure to see the young Osama Bin Laden getting practice for the future.
You're deluding yourself mate, but I don't blame you, you are from a country whose goverment constantly feeds you lies and presents them as fact.
Here is a small fact for you, the Soviets inadvertently created the Taliban, Soviet forces in the Afghan war weren't fighting the Taliban, they came later.
And I'm sick of everyone assuming I'm American, I'm not, though I'd rather support America than most other countries.
Soviet may have inadvertently created the Taliban but one can allso ask that upon which agenda Taliban used to aquire power and status in Afganistan ? They did not do it with sixguns blazing. Glory for that deed belong firmly in hands of US who had duiring the war armed and trained mujahedin tribes men to fight against soviets who then after the war revert back to their natural state of banditry to go on raping and pillaging once more (with much better weaponry and training) and whit political agenda opposing mujahedin attrocities did the Taleban aquire secular and political power in Afganistan to do as they pleased. When talking about wars is quite unwise to take moral high horse against any participant since one could as well ask how about those incidentaries used against civilins in Iraq?
