Did this age well? Is it still relevant?
Or did it end up as a trashy movie over time?
shareIt's still a fun, fantasy action movie, I still enjoy it now as I did back then.
Hmm weirdly I rewatched it lately and did not have the same experience.
shareKind of like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004).
By the way, when did people start using the word "relevant" when what they really mean is "cool"?
Funny you bring that movie up. I was just thinking about it a couple of days ago.
Sky Captain is certainly not a perfect movie, but I really appreciate the vision and ambition behind it. It should've been a hit. 300, on the other hand, I have no interest in ever watching again.
Relevant? What does that mean?
It is a movie based on a comic that is based on Spartan Propaganda. It is a fun sword and "sorcery" flick and worth a watch.
I never understood the love for it. I'm sure it's still appreciated. I prefer the comic though.
shareI haven't watched it recently, but my recollection is that it was always a "trashy" movie. Albeit, a "critic-proof" one. By this I mean simply that 300 knows what it wants to be: a rah-rah movie of sweat, blood, and HONOUR! and that's *exactly* what it delivers. It's supposed to be nothing but fun, carnage, and very basic virtue vs. vice in terms of its substance. It's not here to "say" anything, so anybody who watches the film and says, "It's not a good movie; it's trashy," isn't really going to deter anybody who wants to watch it. We know. We're going anyway. We didn't buy tickets to watch high art or the epitome of cinematic excellence. We want "THIS IS SPARTA!" and "TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL!" and "Then we will fight in the shade."
shareI think it’s aged well and is still as fun as it was upon its initial release.
I wouldn’t classify it as trashy by any means.
One of my dreams that will never come to true is for Zack Snyder to bring the Age of Apocalypse comic run to the big screen in similar fashion as 300, R rated, hyper stylized, sexy, violent, and bordering on the absurd.
The patina of this movie screams 2000s Action/Fantasy. The entire film's cinematography matches the battle of Minas Tirith segment from RotK, as well.
shareRelevant? It's an action movie based on something that happened thousands of years ago. Does anybody even know what "relevant" means anymore?
shareI was thinking exactly the same thing!
share"Relevant" still is nowhere near as misused as "toxic", "weaponize", "privilege", "safe", and "trauma"
shareYou forgot "literally"!
shareDoesn't it depend on how these words identify?
There's another one for the list.
That got overused by The Late 90s. So much so, I(and most folks)are apathetic to it's banality. Same way folks now only periodically bitch about fellas from the ghetto sagging their pants down to their knees
shareI once overheard two teenage girls talking. One was telling the other about something that had annoyed her, and finished with 'Honestly, my head literally exploded!'. I thought Jesus, you do not have a clue.
Another one is 'doing a 360', when what they actually mean is 'doing a 180'.

If they were two beautiful girls, we'd all no doubt prefer to see them engaged in a 69

2 : in effect: virtually — used in an exaggerated way to emphasize a statement or description that is not literally true or possible.
