The Queen gave it up too easily.
I understand that time was critical and that she needed to persuade the counsel but she was the Queen, with beauty, power, and charm. Surely she could come up with a rousing speech or at least tried to persuade each councilman individually. And there were plenty of places to talk privately. There was no need to retire to a bed chamber.
At least the King didn't have to find out about it. Can you imagine his disappointment?
