WOW

Do people actually believe the whole Noah’s ark story? I understand kids liking it and thinking its cute and all. But do adults actually believe it?

well there are christians who still believe the adam and eve story is true, even going as far as keeping their children from schools that teach the evolution theory. so I can believe they believe this too.

reply

Yes, adults believe this. My friend is a strict Christian, and it's really ironic to see how he's getting degrees in science yet also arguing for stories like these. According to him and his church, Noah essentially took 2 of every family/species and natural selection altered their genes to give the variation we see today, but not enough to actually change species (i.e. amount of chromosomes weren't changed). So basically 2 wolves were taken and became every wolf and dog species today, 2 bears came and became every bear species we see today, etc etc. The animals who didn't make it, or wouldn't procreate, became extinct.

And yet they don't believe in human evolution when this "theory" is pretty much animal evolution. Man...

Wow indeed. To believe in such utter tosh is just ridiculous! Its a ludicrous concept!

It's worth bearing in mind that some of the worst literalists (fundamentalists?) can be atheists or skeptics. It's better to see Noah's ark as a myth, not a myth in the modern sense of something being a complete lie, but myth in the sense of a kind of explanation and metaphor.

It's not "sci-fi", it's SF!

Yes, I gave this nut I dated a chance and I remember asking if he really believed that nonsense and he said "well I don't think he got every animal but all of them around him".

Sad.

Christians believes it, but those of us who has grown up being teached the harsh truth of reality and not been filled with B.S from our families and a church, don't.
