film title seems odd (yes I do get it)

I dont understand how the sequel to Bruce almighty has a better title than its predecessor , evan almighty is obviously a play on words , however as far as im aware Bruce almighty isnt , This seems very strange , if id have made the first one and written in a character called evan thats the name I would have used for the lead character and called it "evan almighty"

pretty sure theres no real play of words meant other than following the parttern set up in the 1st film and putting the title characters name in front of almightly

the human mind is not an omelette

Wtf are you talking about. even if there is a play on words that im missing... ah i cant even begin that paragraph is just so poorly constructed.
chicks given me their jersey, that's their name and number.

reply

I think I know what your talking about, but I think it's unlikely they did that. Evan's kind of a comman name.

reply

No idea what he's talking about, but it does seem a bit odd. In Bruce Almighty, Bruce actually had God-like powers. In Evan Almigthy, Evan is simply following instructions by God, but has no actual powers. He is emulating Noah instead of God Almighty.

reply

Bruce almighty was made first before this movie or any planning on making this

movie so they just named the second movie after the character in Bruce almighty

and that character happens to be named Evan.

reply

Wow... Some people are being pretty dense here.

The OP is saying that the second movie has a better title (Evan/Heaven Almighty), since it's an obvious play on words, compared to 'Bruce Almighty' - which doesn't, even though it's the smarter movie.

But there is no play on words.

Evan Almighty has nothing to do with heaven. Just because words rhyme doesn't mean there is a play on words.

The phrase "Heaven Almighty" doesn't even make sense.

reply

Bruce was the character's name in the first film who became God. Heard of the phrase God almighty? Thats where Bruce almighty came from as a title.

reply

Yes, there's the whole Evan/Heaven Almighty thing, which I'm sure the filmmakers were at least aware of, even if it was kind of a lucky coincidence.

I always thought that Bruce Almighty, similarly, was a play on ZEUS almighty. So hopefully that makes the first movie title seem more clever (or groan-worthy, depending on your pun tolerance).

I get it. Even almightier.

reply

Are people really suggesting that they've never heard the term 'Heaven Almighty'.

Of course it was a play on words.

reply

The phrase is "God Almighty" because he's powerful, "Heaven Almighty" isnt a saying as it makes no sense.

I don't care what anyone says, Rocky 5 is good!

reply

The OP, may they rest in peace since it's obviously been years, just thought that "Evan" was a better name and that Jim Carrey should've been named "Evan" in the first movie. On another off topic note; a friend of mine pointed out that "Evan Almighty" isn't accurate because "almighty" refers more to God and his powers, which matched the first movie. Noah was not God. But it's understood it's just for marketing sake to keep "Almighty" in the sequel title.
