Not accurate at all!
I know this is a simple comedy, and I tried to look at it for what it was, but EVERYTHING about Congress is this movie is incorrect. Just a few that I have seen in the first few minutes of the movie are as follows:
-The number on the bill is way too high for being early in the session.
-Rep. Baxter's office is entirely too big, and looks nothing like ANY office in Congress (including the House and Senate).
-You cant be a junior sponsor of a bill, you can co-sponsor a bill though.
-The "Halls of Congress" do not look like that, nor do the office buildings.
-The committee meeting is just plain wrong and I think they got the name of the House committee wrong.
-Members of Congress generally do not move their whole family to the DC area, and they could rarely afford a house that big, and there is no location near the Nation's Capital that looks like that.
-Neither Members of Congress, nor their staff park on the street on the Mall.
It seems like they could have hired a former Congressional staffer, intern, or custodial engineer to advise them on Congressional accuracies, but clearly they didn't. I tried to look at this at face value, but it is so hard when this movie resembles NOTHING of Congress. Maybe they were trying to make the job of serving in Congress look more glamorous than it is.
If you want a fairly accurate (in terms of the buildings and procedures) look at Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.
