Was the prosecution trying to lose this case? After the defense attorney spewed that garbage out about Veronica trying to seduce Aaron, blah, blah, blah, why did the prosecuting attorney not cross examine Veronica, and ask her to tell the jury what happened that night? I think the whole trial was stupid!

Because it's a noir show and the entire justice system being incompetent or corrupt is kind of a trope of that genre.
