I understand Kal Penn just left without warning so they had to kill the character but suicide from nowhere was bizarre.

That was the whole point of the episode. It was a shock to the whole team that Kutner killed himself without any warning or reason.

Did you know anyone who committed suicide? It's very common for people to commit suicide, yet no one knows why they choose to die, and that is why a lot of families suffer from the "no reason".

While I do agree it was a bad idea to kill him because the actor could have returned eventually, I think the episode was well executed and its one of the most memorable moments of the show for me, specially the last scenes with Taub breaking into tears and House looking at the picture.

I agree. It was one of the best and most memorable episodes for me as well.
