I chose to watch this as part of my university transnational media module however on watching it it didnt become clear to me why this (as according to wikipedia) was a French/ American film, it seems pretty American made, conceived and intended to me. any help would be appreciated.

Did you see where the funding came from? That's usually how they decide what country "made" the film.

You never know where a movie was actually shot.
Always possible to have the most American looking scene ever being shot in Canada or Europe.
And yes, also funding.
