A middle aged man's wet dream?

I saw this movie a few years ago. This not so attractive middle aged man goes around to former lovers for a very specific reason. Interesting movie. Lots of good roles for women actors.

But half of the women either are still pining for him, or live wasted lives, since he didn't bless them with marriage. This is a common theme in movies. The women that men leave behind, in the men's minds, go on to lead desolute, unhappy lives, since he didn't stay around. Like the wife in It's A Wonderful Life, who never marries and becomes a homely glass-wearing librarian, since Jimmy Stewart wasn't around to marry her.

But the female characters were interesting, the acting good, and it was funny in parts. It's worth watching just to see them. Murray, OTOH, just goes from place to place, from woman to woman, with a deadpan expression and never saying much. If someone has to do this in a movie, Murray is good at doing that. But it's unrealistic, uninteresting, and doesn't require much in the way of acting skills.

Yeah let's face it he is not a good looking guy and his character has zero personality. No way he had that many girls. He barely makes a facial expression.

He's BORING. There is no way he slept with 4 women in a year's time unless he found them at a strip club or they were prostitutes. I can't imagine he would have changed from being Mr. Fun to Mr. Half-Dead in that time.
He sits in his spotless living room staring straight ahead with crappy music playing. He should just go lay down next to the dead girl and wait for someone to bury him.

That's how he is now. Maybe he had a different personality when he was younger.

He had money, a nice car and a nice house. I can't remember what he did for his money, but it was enough for most of the women he used to know. He may have also had something the viewers aren't aware of?

He was in computers. On what level exactly he never said.

To the OP, I wouldn't say the women were all pining after him, nor assume they were wasting their lives. Sharon Stone slept with him yeah, but she seemed happy before/during/after his visit and she was a widow. The redhead was a successful real estate agent. Maybe like many women, she longed for more, but can't say she wasted her life, certainly not any more than Bill Murray's character.

No, you're entirely wrong here.

The middle aged man's wet dream would have been if the Lolita jumped on his lap, surrendered to his every command, and then no one ever found out about it. That's the American dream they're sellin to fogies these days.
