Why did he leave the first letter to Kate in his own post box?
Why did he think she'd find the letter there?
Wasn't he just leaving a note for the next tenant?

I don't know how it works in other parts of the world, but here, you can put your outgoing mail in to your own mailbox, and the mail man will take it out when they are delivering the new mail. She left her forwarding address with him in the first letter, so it makes sense that he would be writing back, and putting it in his mail box for pickup
