This movie got so much hate when it was released that it made me hesitant to see it. I was still always curious because the story seemed so original and cool.

I only saw it today for the first time and let me say, it really didn't deserve the hate. The acting was great from the two leads. They really convinced me they were in love and it was a really good and very romantic film.

I think poor Keanu Reeves has a bad rep from some of his earlier work and it made this movie get a bad name for itself. Unfortunately because people can't get over their bitchy self righteous criticisms long enough to actually just enjoy a good movie. It's crap it took me this long to see this movie just because I believed it too. Now it is going in my list of best romantic films ever.

I rate it 10/10. I think it's Keanu Reeves' best movie.

I saw it in theaters. I didn't think it was bad, but I am a sci-fi fan first and foremost, and that said, the time travel paradoxes (paradii?) in this movie are worse than your average time travel movie. No matter how you cut it, there is simply no way Keanu's character can be there at the end.

There are some plot impossibilities but Keanu being there at the end I don't think is one of them.

It actually isn't Time Travel at the end of the movie. Movies like "The Time Machine", "Donnie Darko", "Back to the Future", "Groundhog Day", and "Edge of Tomorrow" have actual time travel where the person goes to a different time period. Neither Alex or Kate do any time travel in any Science Fiction manner anywhere in this movie. Only the mail travels through time to a two year distance.

Whatever action Alex does in Kate's life impacts Kate's past two years and thus her present, and future. So it makes perfect sense that if Alex chooses not to cross the road in front of the bus (get killed), he can then wait two years when she is standing in front of the Lake House begging him to not cross the road and arrive at around that time at the Lake House. This is no different than Alex going to her birthday party. He kissed the Kate that is two years younger. At the end he is essentially becoming involved with the younger Kate rather than the one communicating with him through the mail box.

However, this situation could create some weird effects with the mailbox if they decide to stay there for more than two years.

The time travel concept I thought was generally silly but enjoyed this movie.

Yeah, apparently it took me a long time to see this movie too but I took care of that problem by writing to myself and told myself to see this movie as soon as possible, so I did.

I so agree, I hadn't seen this film before tonight and am surprised at how moved I was by it. Now it was obvious that he didn't come to the meal because he died but you still hoped they could get together.

This is a "keeper" and definitely one that will be played more than once. Must say that in Sandra Bullock you have an actress that has aged remarkably well and to me looks better as the years go on.

I just watched this movie and enjoyed it. I thought the plot was very good and made the movie more interesting than your standard Drama Romance.

The acting surprised me since I have heard negative comments about Keanu Reeves. I thought both Reeves and Bullock did well.

EDIT* I had also not enjoyed a couple other movies with Sandra Bullock (with exception to "Gravity" which I loved) until I saw this one. She acted well and got a good role in this movie.
