Who was the 'richest family in Mississippi'?
I wish they'd made Malin Akerman the spoiled rich girl, instead of a weirdo with a flaky mother, so it would make his rejection of her seem less cruel.
In the original 1970s Heartbreak Kid, we were meant to find the titular character, played by Charles Grodin, contemptible for dumping his newlywed wife for rich, blonde Cybill Shepherd, but the pointless remake did away with all that, including the interesting Jewish/WASP angle, irrespective of Ben Stiller's casting, and instead turned the 'protagonist' into a supposedly sympathetic character who is justified for ditching his wife. I think I'd have been happier with that angle if they'd made Malin's character more of a spoiled, whiny jerk, rather than just someone with a few unexpected quirks, and it's a shame because I think Malin would have been good at playing a WASPy rich bitch (unfortunately, the Farrellys really are dim-bulbs who don't put a lot of thought and depth into their frat-boy comedies).
