The Depahted

Should've been the title

reply

The 2000s will be remembered as the time when Hollywood decided bad Boston accents were more interesting than bad New York accents. Damon and Wahlberg were legit, but DiCaprio just can't do accents.

reply

Don't people complain that Damon was too OTT? I'm not American, but even to me his accent seemed a bit too much.

reply

He might've laid it on a bit thick, but he's Boston born and bred.

reply

He was born and bred in Cambridge in what seems an upper-middle class family. I doubt he grew up speaking with a noticeable Bostonian accent like Wahlberg.

reply

I don't understand the hate on this movie. I never noticed over the top acting or accents. I'm just glued to my seat everytime I watch it. I watched the original it was based on, a Korean movie I think. It was a good movie. But this movie just fleshed out and makes it more of a character study, with Scorsese style. What's not to like.

reply

I like the movie a lot. Some accents were good (Damon, Wahlberg), others were muddled (DiCaprio, Nicholson).

I still enjoy watching it whenever I happen to catch it on TV.

reply

What's your favourite movie?

reply

Man, that's a tough one. So many good ones to choose from. Probably The Godfather or Godfather II.

How about yours?

reply

Yeah that's hard. Haha. But I'm a man of simple pleasures. Either speed or happy Gilmore at the moment. I watched the godfather for the first time recently, and I really didn't see what all the hubub was about.

reply

Speed is a solid action flick.

reply

My favourite movie since I was 15 till about 25 was always die hard. But lately I just have more fun watching speed. I'd hate to add up all of the hours of my life I've been watching that bus, but damn, it would be a shitload-or rather a busload.

reply

Reminds me of this great Frank Costanza line from Seinfeld...
Two months ago, I saw a provocative movie on cable TV. It was called The Net, with that girl from The Bus.

BTW: Die Hard is honestly one of the best action films EVER.

reply

That movie, it had a bus. The bus, it could never go below a certain SPEED, and if it dropped below that SPEED, it would blow up. I think it was called " the bus that could never slow down".

reply

🤣 🤣 🤣

reply

It was a Hong Kong movie called Infernal Affairs.

I'm a foreigner and even for me the accents were too much at times. As for the rest, I've always felt this movie was way too long. The story just wasn't that interesting anymore after a while.

reply

I respect that opinion. I mean I watched departed before I watched infernal. And infernal felt so rushed. But if I had watched infernal first, I bet I woulda thought, what I tight, neat movie. I just really love the departed so I went in with the wrong mentality.

reply

Speed rocks, though. Best action flick of all time.

reply

Fuck yeah it is! I can hear the music in my head right now.

reply

One of the greatest themes of all time. They don't make em like that anymore.

reply

That's for sure. Dunt dunt dunt dunt dunt da.

reply

lol agreed
