10th anniversary of "The Departed" - October 6th

So how has this film held up after 10 years?

I think it's a very good film from Scorsese, but I don't think it deserved Best Picture and Scorsese's Best Director win was clearly a "pity Oscar" like it was for Paul Newman for The Color of Money. It also feels like this is familiar territory for Scorsese even though he's in good form here.

But the film is still quite entertaining, quotable, has vibrant performances, etc. It's probably Scorsese's best film since the year 2000.

Oh, and those "Bah-ston" accents make me laugh.

"Micro-praw-cessors".

"They called you the tumah."

it's still solid but it does not work for me as much as it once did as i just finished re-watching it just now on Oct 9th 2016 and overall it's taken a solid hit as even though the movie is still solid overall it lost a good portion of it's magic as it was a 10/10 and is now a 7/10. it's still within my Top 213 movies where as before it was within my Top 15 movies.

my previous re-watch of it was Aug 6th 2014 and at that time it was still 10/10 status for me. so somewhere between then and now it took a hit but, obviously, i did not find that out until a viewing just now.

p.s. so at this point... The Wolf of Wall Street or The Color of Money is my favorite Scorsese movie as both are currently tied but i won't be surprised if The Wolf of Wall Street ends up being my favorite Scorsese movie when i get around to re-watching it before this year is finished.

i don't know about you but i think Newman was born to play that Fast Eddie Felson character. so i am glad he won for that role. the movie is underrated to and within my Top 73 movies.

It's probably Scorsese's best film since the year 2000.

it used to be his best movie period but not anymore as here is how i rank Scorsese's best now...

1.The Color of Money (1986) - 8/10
-.The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
3.The Aviator (2004) - 7.5-8/10
4.Casino (1995)
5.After Hours (1985) - 7-7.5/10
-.Gangs of New York (2002)
7.The Departed (2006) - 7/10

so given that info, then obviously, The Wolf of Wall Street is definitely my pick for best since 2000 and, like i was mentioning above, The Wolf of Wall Street might end up taking the #1 spot of ALL Scorsese movies once i get around to re-watching it before this year is finished.

Just watched it on the big screen on 35mm and it's still great and Leo is awesome and complex. I'm more impressed with Nicholsons performance this time too. He's not playing jack as much as I thought he originally was.
