Halfway through the film Leonardo DiCaprio's character comes over his doctor's apartment, talks to her briefly, then they make out and have sex
She knew he was nuts and had a criminal past, she had a boyfriend and was moving in with him, so why?

He wasn't "crazy". Just because someone has a criminal past doesn't mean you're not capable of falling for them! They had a connection. He showed up at her apt & was open and let his guard down with her- & was vulnerable as she mentions. Her boyfriend she's moving in with is closed-off, has walls up all around him, and is impotent most of the time- -and she's aware he lies to keep "work" secrets from her. But she's in denial because she wants a serious relationship and doesn't want to be alone.
How her boyfriend hides the framed photo of her a kid on the bike- jokes her picture doesn't belong out in the open. But Costigan loves it when he finds it in the moving box and even hangs it up on the wall. That's what seals the deal for her!

shareOh yes... I've always thought the baby was Costigan's. :) Especially because they showed Sullivan's impotency issue... maybe it didn't have EVERY time, but ya never know. I like to imagine that's the way it worked out- so then Costigan's memory could live on in a way.... I imagine if it were Sullivan's, she'd always have that worry in the back of her head- about her son's father having been a sociopath and hoping he doesn't inherit those traits.
One of my favorite movies of all time.
I missed the part about the impotency but at the end, it made me think the baby is Billy's.
shareThis came out from no where as with many other events in this movie are unreasonable, uncalled for and/or simply illogical... The entire movie doesn't make any sense really!
It is of moderate quality and the one reason it got all the attention was the AAA cast and that is all.
I was very disappointed with this movie
