Why did the aliens do their lightening strikes first in Ukraine? Is that a significant detail?

It is not significant. The movie was made eighteen years ago.

This post was made two years ago, so I don't think any "predictive programming" nonsense was intended. (tinfoil hat off) Unless Who (4528) was posting from our then future and current present... (tinfoil hat on... lol)

Anyway, these aliens are way too militarily competent to be a valid comparison with the Russians.
