just noticed about billys eye (spoilers)

Ive seen this movie about 5 times now because its been on HBO recently. Several times throughout the movie that kid billy says "I have perfect vision, its my gift" once when hes pointing at a plane flying and again when hes flirting with crystals mom about growing up to be a pilot.
I never realized the ending when he gets his eye sliced had so much irony, just another great reason why i find this movie so entertaining

When I read this, I thought I had something terribly wrong with MY eyes.

yea, great film just finished watchint it...

i love how at the end hes like "twin engine yaddya yaddya about the plane haha"

That's the truly ironic part - it was meant to impart that his vision was not ruined, though the fall back to earth rendered the point moot.

reply

No it isn't, he was wrong; the plane was a jet not a P38 WWII fighter. Besides, I'm pretty he'd been wrong every time before. So the irony of his injury was that it ruined even his delusion of grandeur. It was always false anyway.

it took you five viewings to understand why that was important? not the sharpest knife in the drawer are you?

reply

He doesn't have an EYE for details?
