Another 'Suburbia is Crap' Movie

shareEver think that's because surburbia is crap and movies like this explore the ugly side hidden behind the facade that is perfect little american suburbia? Rich kids with "too busy to care" parents, this kinda stuff happens all the time, if you think it's just made up drama then you're naive. See also, Bully, Alpha Dog or Little Children.

It wasn't the subject matter that was the problem in my opinion. It was the complete lack of motivation for the characters to act the way they did that was lame. It was well made, but every time someone did something, you're asking why.
Why didn't the kid get mad at his brother Charlie when he switched the drugs?
Why ask him to get the drugs from Troy's house? He doesn't know where they are in his room any more than the bad guys do, so why send him? He just bumps into finding them anyway, so what was the point?
Why didn't he tell the police captain it was his son that was kidnapped? Just say 'if you don't believe me, go to your ex's house and ask to see him.'
Why didn't the mistaken Charlie say anything when they were in public? Like, 'hey, these guys kidnapped me, help.'?
Why is everyone so scared of the weakest and least intimidating school bully ever?
Why was the bully's mom so into the mayor and his wife?
Why why why? Without sufficient character development their actions don't make sense to us an audience. Not that it was a bad movie in general, but nothing more than about a 7/10 really...

Answers (my opinion)
Because he didn´t give a *beep*
Because he was Troys friend and therefore it was easier to get in and out of Troys place
Because he didn´t give a *beep* And the officer was a pain in the ass so maybe he felt, *beep* you
Because he seemed to enjoy himself
Haha the best question. Asked myself the same one
Famestalker..? Seemed to fit the profile..
Yeah there were a lot of holes. Aside from that all the themes were really obvious. I found myself saying 50 times or so 'yes, we get it, it's all the parents fault.'
Also don't know why Chumscrubber was the title of the film, wasn't really relevent.

Just because you don't understand a part of a movie because you were too busy with your thumb up your arse dosen't mean they're plot holes.
shareWhy didn't the kid get mad at his brother Charlie when he switched the drugs?
Because there is nothing Dean can do about it at that point. And I think he finds it a little surreal that so much can go wrong.
Why ask him to get the drugs from Troy's house? He doesn't know where they are in his room any more than the bad guys do, so why send him? He just bumps into finding them anyway, so what was the point?
Dean has been to Troy's way more and would be more familiar with where Troy might have hidden it. Case in point, Dean can get into the locked pool house.
Why didn't he tell the police captain it was his son that was kidnapped? Just say 'if you don't believe me, go to your ex's house and ask to see him.'
Would he have been believed even if he had said so? Officer Bratley had already decided there was something wrong with the kid, and Dr. Stiffle was confirming it for him when they left Dean to talk.
Why didn't the mistaken Charlie say anything when they were in public? Like, 'hey, these guys kidnapped me, help.'?
I think it was a novelty for him, he got to hang out with the cool kids, they weren't exactly threatening him until the 2nd day and then there are things that you tell yourself in those kinds of situations, because I think Charlie really liked Crystal and wanted to stay with them.
Why is everyone so scared of the weakest and least intimidating school bully ever?
Why is anyone afraid of a bully? Sure he is not intimidating on the screen, but could you say the same thing if you were faced with him in person?
Why was the bully's mom so into the mayor and his wife?
I assume you are talking about Crystal's mom, Geri? She wanted the prestige of being near powerful people. She practically salivated when she found out who Charlie's mother was. She likes being important and she can be important if she can claim important friends.
Those are my opinions anyway. I think the characters motivations make perfect sense if you set yourself within their world. All the teens feel ignored and thus they would want the acceptance of their own, if they can't get it from their parents. Dean might be the only exception because by this time he just doesn't care about what his peers think of him. I just loved this movie.
But "suburbia" isn't crap you moron. There is no "ugly side". It isn't a "facade". And it isn't "perfect". Further people in suburbs aren't "rich". If you think you have any qualifications to make this assessment you're an idiot. You clearly didn't grow up in suburbs. See also, you're a dumbass.
It is a standard cliche' in Hollywood films to always portray suburbs as nightmarish hell holes where dreams go to die. If this were true, and not complete bullsh!t, then people with steady jobs and children wouldn't seek it out.
