Is this a remake or is the title just coincidence?
I haven't watched both...
shareObviously a remake - http://www.imdb.com/character/ch0017667/
shareA remake of the 1949 classic, which was way better than this one.
"Why don't you have another beer?"-Scott Stevens
The original is a strong movie for its time, but Steven Zallian made this as a faithful attempt at adapting the book which the original greatly diverged from.
sharejust heard a podcast where steve zaillian said it was an adaptation of the book because he hadn't seen the original film, so to call it a bona fide remake probably isn't right. there are many similarities, but as both films come from the same book, thats hardly a surprise!
shareI don't buy zaillian's story that the movie was was an adaptation of the book because he hadn't seen the original film.
For instance:
There is no Willie Stark in the book; his name is Willie Talos.
The book is a redemtption tale of Jack Burden. Both movies are about the rise and fall of Wille Stark.
Several scenes happen in both movies, but not the book.
The name Willie Stark is in the novel
There are two versions of the novel. In his original manuscript Robert Penn Warren used the name Willie Talos but when it was published the name was changed to Willie Stark. Then a second version, edited by Noel Polk, was published, known as the restored version, which reverted back to using Willie Talos along with some other canges.
Thanks for the heads-up. I read the Polk edition.
