ALL THE KING'S MEN, MILK + BENJAMIN BUTTON

Hm. In the fullness of time, has anyone re-thought their reactions to this film? Watch PENN in this, and then watch him in MILK. You can almost see him, literally, pull character through himself and put himself aside. He really is a sight to behold. You can see the work he does. When I began to watch, I didn't think I'd make it all the way through, particularly after I read you all. I did. And was surprised. I mention Benjamin Button because it had the same kind of gentle effect on me, only more so...OK, it's not earth shattering - nor is Benjamin - BUT it is mesmorising. And gorgeous. In ALL it's aspects. Even Hopkins' accent is forgiveable because ALL the performances are so measured and, at least to themselves, true. The crafting of the story...it's editing is intelligent and tempered. The Photography has you switching off all the lights. And it sits with you long after you've finished the cookies. I was pleasantly surprised.
