... the old movie was ok but I thought they could have done better than telling just the Willie Stark story line. Do I want to see this?

Its excellent. It is long and very nuanced so however carefully you follow, you feel like you've missed something. Sean Penn is spectacular. Jude law and the rest are very, very good. Its a film for grown ups and will stay with you a while after you finish watching it.

No, the book is wayyy better as well as COMPLETELY different. Sure, this movie loves the "rise and fall of willie stark" story, but the book was so good because it wasn't about that. Rather, it is a redemption tale of Jack Burden, and the politics part of it merely play second fiddle.
