I thought it was a solid movie as well, with a great score. Ya can't really listen to the so-called "experts" about movies, movie reviews, etc. because it's all about opinion. Due to this, I personally think it's pointless to have professional (using that one loosely) movie critics at all. That being said...

As far as the Hitler thing goes, I dunno about that one and really don't care to know, but Willie started out a good man, and was corrupted by money and power. Such is politics.

I'm in the process of watching this movie. I've also found it very very good. I also like the music. I don't go by what critics say about movies if it's gonna be good or not. If I think a movie is something I'll be interested in I see it. If I think it's not going to appeal to me then I don't see it.

I hear ya! The music and mood of the movie are what make it a cut above the rest.

I didn't hate it but thought it paled in comparison to the original. I gave it a 5.

You "liked" the movie but seem to have missed the point completely. It's not about good or evil, so I'm not sure if you're expecting him to be Hannibal Lecter or something but he's an average guy starting off with good intentions and getting corrupted by power to the point where he loses sight of himself and his goals. SO yeah, he was crooked.

I gave the movie a 6. It was just above average to me and it doesn't do justice to the novel, not to mention the first adaptation. With this cast, it's nothing short of a terrible waste. It's sadly not Penn's best performance though.

I'd ignore the Hitler comparisons. Penn's character had his flaws but to call him Hitler is one of the most ridiculous things i've ever seen. People pull out the tired old Hitler comparison any time someone they don't like does something they disagree with. If a politician sneezes without covering his mouth, he's a Hitler. If Stark was a Hitler then so are most politicians in history. Because apparently a bit of corruption and intimidation, which in Stark's case was done in the interest of helping the people and putting oligarchs in their place, is the equivalent of shoving people into ovens and burning a continent to the ground.
