Why would he make a goodbye letter to his wife then take it with him?

Spoilers below:

I never understood why Brad made a goodbye letter for Kathy just so he could take it with him. I mean if you seen on the envelope it only has her name in big letters so you know he wasn't really planning on mailing it. Shouldn't something like that be left for the person to find?

I assumed that he knew there was a chance he would back out and just go home, because he was quite a fickle person at heart; or, he possibly took it so if Sarah had backed out of their plan last-minute, his wife wouldn't have known what he'd been up to (like so many married men who have affairs that suddenly end, he would almost certainly have simply gone home to his wife as if nothing had happened.)

You sound like a bitter old hen clucking away. Cheating women do the same thing I bet.

reply

Amen!! Women cheat just as much as men do, if not more. The only difference is that they get caught less often. Doesn't make them any less despicable though.

And why he was happy after the skate fall?

I guess he thinks something like "Now I'm hurt, so I need my wife back so she can take care of me"

reply

Because he finally fulfilled his need to live again, or feel young and refreshed, the same kicks he was getting from fooling around with Sarah

I think it indicated he had changed his mind which is also why he stopped to talk with the skateboarders. It was a flawed ending though in many respects.
