Claudio's bike license

What was the deal with Claudio having to pass that motorcycle test in the UK. I mean wasn't it just so he could ride with and film Ewan and Charley in the UK, which was only a very small portion of the trip. Why did they make such an ordeal out of it. Why didn't he just meet up with them in France because whatever license he held in Switzerland surely should've been enough to enable him to drive through the rest of Europe without a hitch. To me it doesn't make a helluva lot of sense unless the UK license holds much greater merit across Europe and in North America. Anybody know?

Think it has a lot to do with paperwork, insurance and the bikes didnt belong to them they were owned by BMW Motorrad it works like a lease so as they were from the uk they require uk licences but once they got out of europe anyway most road users dont have licences and insurance anyway. But as it was being broadcast it all needed to be above board. any with regards to UK licences holding greater merit i dont think so but you would need to look into the diffrent technicalities (sp)? to the diffrent licences.
