After watching a few episodes of this show I was totally captivated and drawn into their adventure. For a long time I've had a dream to go on an expedition or long journey through sparsely inhabited areas of the world, but I've always downplayed it as a mere dream since something like that couldn't be organised in a couple of weeks or so and I'm not the most patient person; however, seeing these two guys put their dreams into fruition and put so much effort and time into making it a reality is really inspiring. And its inspired me to get my arse off the couch and go out and explore the world more and stop letting my fears of the unknown get the better of me. Now in two weeks time I'm going skydiving with a few friends due largely in part to this show.
The question I pose is, has this show inspired you in any way to do something crazy or want to fulfil some lifelong dream?
Are you saying that you will be attending the Horizon's unlimited traveller's meeting in Mexico or that you are going on a motorcycle road trip yourself. Or were you merely trying to draw my attention to that website?
Sorry I hope I didn't come off as being rude or ungrateful, I didn't realise you were responding to the remark I made about my dreams of a journey seeming unrealisable. Hope there's no hard feelings. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though it should come in very handy as a future information resource. BTW did you go on your trips via motorcycle or 4-wheel drive?
PS. Can you please post that link again I have forgotten what the website was.

Very good question and my answer is yes, yes and yes again! Like you, I saw a few episodes on tv a few weeks ago which then made me rent the DVD and I easily watched it 5 or 6 times before I had to take it back (I'm buying it soon). I thought I'd be considered a bit of a nutter if I admitted this to anyone but watching it totally inspired me! It made me realize that there are so many things I've wanted to do and all I've been doing for the past couple years has been sitting on my arse too. I swear I'm even thinking of moving to England which is something I've always thought about but always thought was "too crazy". Now I say why not? Why not travel? Why not learn to do things I've wanted to do?
I don't know if I'll ever do exactly what they did and ride across the world on a motorbike (though I do want to learn to ride one now) as I am a female and realistically I know that the trip they took would have been quite different had it been done by women rather than men. But that's okay, I can still travel and that's really the whole point isn't it? It's like the boys were saying after the Russian advisors kept telling them how horrible some of the places would be - they are a part of the world and should be seen! Who cares if years ago someone was sent there as punishment? I say if you wanna go then go!
I made one of my friends watch the first DVD with me on New Years and five minutes into the first show she turned to me and said "This is awesome! How cool are these guys?" and by the time we finished the first DVD she was loving every minute of it just as much as I so I guess I should've known it wasn't just me.....
Okay I'm totally on a "high" now.....
"Does this hat make my bum look big?" - Charley reply share
Thats good to hear mokibobolink. I'm going skydiving tomorrow, can't wait and the weather is going to be fantastic here in Oz. Closest to flying I will ever get. I might even post some pics. Wish me luck.
Well it's probably too late now to say "good luck" so I'll just say that I hope you had a great time! Post the pics, I'm sure everyone wants to see what the earth looks like from that distance...
Thankyou for your wellwishings mokibobolink. Just got back from skydiving and it was f*^%king awesome. The whole experience was so surreal the ground from that high up literally looks like one of those miniature models. My tandem instructor even let me steer the parachute for a while it was just so exhilarating. Just listen to Ewan and Charley about not letting the 'what ifs' get in the way of your dreams I didn't nor should you. You will not regret it.
Oh and its gonna take a few days for me to get the photos developed. Oh if you or anyone else is playing to do any skydiving in the future don't let the tension of plane ride up worry you as the rush of free falling will far outweigh any kind of nervousness. Controlling your breathing or slowing it down is a great way to control your nerves it worked wonders for me.
My photos have finally been developed and you can find them here: http://paratroopnige.blogspot.com/ Read the info about my experience if you like otherwise just look at the pics.
