special edition question

i just got an email from amazon, and theres a NEW edition? whats on it that i dont already have from the regular dvd? i already spent a lot of money on it, is it worth it to get this new special edition?

The special edition is the new extended series (10 episodes as opposed to the original 7), there's a lot of extra footage in the extended (including fottage from the practice in Australia which wasn't even mentioned in the original series) there's also a brand new final episode which is Ewan, Charley, Claudio, Russ, David and a few other people looking back on the trip (done, I think a year after they finished the trip).

One by one, the Pirates steal my sanity.......

better be worth it!!!!!!!!

naaaah I spent around 17 quid on the normal one last Chrimbo and its just a shame they didnt have Special Edition disc sold seperately for a set price, rather than have like double of the same footage......it never makes sense but its how they make money.

It makes it harder to want to buy the same viewing all over again just for the specials.........

the special edition is really good it shows the guys doing alsorts of training like self defence and getting every thing in place before the trip so it is definately worth it.

Hey well at least you guys have the OPTION to buy the damn thing!

Us Yanks don't even have it available here yet. By the by, anyone up here know when the 10 disk set might be released in the States??? I don't want to bother to buy the 7 episode version when I'd much rather have the 10 disk special edition.

Bump!

I found the 7-episode version for eight pounds here in London (I'm an American student, with a Region 1 player in my laptop). This shorter version was Region Free, so if the longer version is also Region Free, you might be able to order it off Amazon.uk or something...

I didn't know about the longer version before I bought mine, but I might want to invest in it as well!

Here here...any release date for the 10 episode version. All I've been able to find are Region 2's on ebay. Not going to work on my DVD player. :-(

I bought the book off of Amazon last week and so far I LOVE it!. I went on Amazon to check on the DVD but saw that the extended version still isn't available. However I read a review on Amazon that said the Extended version was coming to the US "sometime in 2006" and to wait for it as it would be worth it. So here I am....still waiting..... *grrrr*

For the moment I have recorded all the eps (except for the first) from a marathon run on TV a couple weeks ago. So that, along with the book, are holding me over for now. Still can't wait for this friggin' Extended version to come out here though!

I took a chance and sent to the UK for the dvd with 7 episodes. It didn't play on my tv, however it did played on my portable dvd player, and I could hook it up to my tv and play it that way. When the 10 episode dvd came out, I sent for that also. It had a lot on it that was not on the 7 episode dvd. It is worth it to buy the 10 episode when it becomes available in the USA.[if you have a portable dvd player, it may do the same as mine did.] These guys will probably be on their next adventure before the 10 episode dvd comes to the USA!!! Why on earth it takes so long is beyond me. They said they have 80 hours of tape of which hardly any would be shown. They should have put lots more different stuff on the 10 episode dvd, then it would have been 17 different episodes to enjoy. Reguardless, it IS worth it to buy the 10 episode dvd when, or if, if ever come out!!!!!

P.S. mokibobolink mentioned the "Long Way Round" book. I bought that book and the coffee table book and both are excellent books. The first book has a lot in it that is not in the dvd and with pictures. The coffee table book has a lot more pictures and recaps the adventure in words. Not as detailed as the original book. I would recommend BOTH books. Excellent reading and great pictures!!

P.S I stated that the guys had 80 hours of tape, but I believe it was 800 hours. That makes more sense.
