What can you tell me about THE BOOK?

I haven't seen the mini-series, I'm not even sure if it's available here, but I was curious about the book. I'm assuming many people on here have read it: What can you tell me about it? How informative is it as a tour of the countries and cultures that they traveled through? Is either the book or mini-series in the reality TV format?

Thank you for your reply and the additional links.

What are some of the things that McGregor, Boorman, or Simon write about? Seeing as Simon's book is much older, I assume it is written in a more conventional and informative manner, but what about McGregor and Boorman's? I don't want to read about how well they got along, how they felt (ie. reality TVesque), their vanities, or their own quest for the meaning of life; I'm more interested in the countries they went through and the external struggles they encountered. How do Long Way Round and Jupiter's Travels stand up in that regard?

Thank you again.

You guys have an interesting profile. Do you mind if I ask what kind of bikes you ride?

The Hornet looks nice. How do you like it? Do you double on it or ride solo?

I'm looking for a dual purpose bike. I live in Taiwan (subtropical), so my motorcycle is my only mode of transportation year round. Traffic here is congested, crazy, and hectic, so I need something quick and nimble. My secondary purpose would be to take day trips -- an occasional weekend excursion -- with my wife into the mountains. For that, I'd need something that's comfortable for two and can still keep speed going up hill. Considering those two requirements, and a finite cash supply, how do you think the 600cc Hornet would stack up?

I'm just starting to do some research on a larger motorcycle, but I've noticed that some bikes have the exhaust pipe just below the seat (ie. 2006 Hornet), and some have it down lower (ie. 2007 Hornet). What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

Does Honda have a list price for the 2007 Hornet? Is it going to be drastically more than the 2006?

Does anyone else have any comments on the book?

I basically agree with the other poster. Jupiter's Travels is the book of books when it comes to motorcycle travel. You mentioned that it was an older book and your correct, but, he just released a new on recently. At 70yrs old he made the trip around the world again. Ewan and Charlies book is also a good read, I ran into Charlie at a bike show in Toronto last weekend and he said that him and Ewan were planning another trip this year. Its also going to be a series and book, titled The Long Way Down, they are going to travel from London to South Africa this time. Both books are worth a read, and both will get you pumped for a trip.
