Long Way Down

Just saw Charlie at a bike show in Toronto. Him, Ewan and the entire crew are getting back together and doing another trip. Going from London-South Africa, the Long Way Down!

reply

Any idea when they are going to start the trip?

reply

2007, when I don't know. Charlie said after Ewan finnished filming his current project. He also said Ewan had adopted a Mongolian child shortly after the Long Way Round, I didn't realize that. Anyway, they are doing it for Unicef again and the two went to Africa already to kinda scope it out I guess.

Most other links I have found for it are like this

I am not sure where I read it, I read so much about motorcycle travel, but apparently after this one to Africa, they are going to do a South America trip.

reply

I read that they will start at the northern tip of Scotland and ride to Cape Town via Italy, Tunisia, Libya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi and the Namib desert.

A third and final journey could be "Long Way UP', from Tierra del Fuego north through the Americas

reply

im not sure bout that i think its relly much more dangereous ti travel africa. because even if there is gov to help them people dont quite follow their gov'S

reply

They will actualy do it. If you check the website that introduces Race to Dakar and Long Way Round, there's is comment about it.

As an American, I hope not. I found the episodes where they were in Canada and the US the least interesting. I think it is a combination of familiarity and the lack of any drama as getting across the US is a rather boring affair especially when compared to the true adventures in say, Mongolia.

reply

I disagree. I live in California and I think Canada and the US really got short changed, being crammed into a single 45 minute episode that included the finale.

It was less interesting because practically nothing was shown and they were more interested in reaching New York on time. North America has plenty of interesting geography to see. I would love to see the giant sand dunes in Canada for example.

Traveling from almost one pole to another would be great sight to see!

reply

Only problem is that driving the prairies is very boring, not much in the way of excitement except the wind. The mountains in Alberta/BC are great, they should have shown more of that, but instead they skimmed over it and appeared in Hungry Horse, so I agree we did get short changed. I rode across Canada last Summer and there are some really great roads, wildlife ect.

on the long way round web site it does says
"yes its happening... the long way down... watch this space for latest news and updates !"

reply

I'm so happy that they'll be doing a 2nd and possibly a 3rd trip. I was always hoping they'd do another trip.

reply

Apparently Ewans wife is coming along on this one. I dont know how I feel about this. I think it's better with just the two guys. And Claudio. Claudio's gotta come back

reply

Hmmm....it could be interesting, though admitedly I would prefer she didn't...NO I am not an obsessed jealous Ewan fan :p But I agree, its better with the two guys.

reply

Yeah, Claudio is great! Ewan's wife will be there only for 3 weeks, so I think we can handle that :-) Anyway, I think she is great with her slight French accent.

reply

It will be different with Eve along. Perhaps Charley's wife will go too.
It is only for 3 weeks. First she has to learn to ride a cycle, and it probably will be in a safe and not so rough part of the trip.
Hey, if I were his wife, I'de go for it!!! Nice of him to take her.

reply

Some of the terrain would be hard to ride two-up. Charlie learned that in the Dakar. But maybe if she joined up in South Africa or somewhere that the road conditions are much better it'd be alright. All the gear plus her would make for a heavy loaded bike, tough even for the Beemer. Are you sure she's coming along? Their children as still fairly young for both mom and dad to be gone that long.

reply

The Long Way Down Will hit TV screens in September 2007 it says on the Long Way Round Website
