Do it yourself

Okay, it's not exactly the same thing. But I just came across the website for this - www.mongolrally.com - and it sound like pretty much the same spirit.

OK, but thats in a car, not on a bike. The great thing with bikes is the exposure to the environment around you. That said how much would it cost in terms of time & money to do the route that Ewan & Charley did?

Yes, you can do such trip even without support-cars and a big budget. Just finished reading a story of two bikers travelling around Mongolia.
A good read, great pics. They met other bikers in there too.
You can find the report (in english) http://www.moposivut.com/

thanks checked the site, yeah its cool. I supspect getting a multiple entry for Russia might prove difficult and then there is mongolia to think about. I reckon, even with freebies this would cost @ least £30k to do.

You can do the mongol rally on a motorbike, but they must be 125cc or less. Im hoping to do it in 2008 on a minsk or a XL125, depending on my cash situation at the end of this summer!

Just thought id mention that you can get temporary entry permits at the border for motorcycles higher than 125cc, if thats whats restricting you. Not sure if this applies to mongol but it might be worth checking out if you havent already done so.
