Road Trip Inspiration...

When I first watched this series on television a few years ago I found it very inspirational. It is actually one of the influences behind my own series of road trips that begin this summer. My trips will not be as epic as Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, but hopefully they will bring the same type of experience. I was wondering if anyone else has been inspired to get on the road themselves.

I'm planning a trip around France and Spain on my bike next summer, these guys just cemented the fact that it should be done. My last road trip was from New York to San Francisco in 2005 in a $500 car and I'm kind of getting itchy feet at the moment.

Very inspiring series.

I do lots of touring on my bike, primarily through the countries of the United Kingdom and Europe.

Watching this series was still very inspirational though, although I doubt I'd have the nerve to actually go round the world; or go off-road!

I'd sooner do an off-road trip on a mountain bike. It's a whole lot easier to get over or through obstacles like a missing bridge or tree across the road.

If someone wanted to tackle a trip like the Road Of Bones without leaving North America, consider the Canol road. It was built during WW2 and hasn't been maintained since. Only about one bridge remains usable, and there's stretches where it resembles a creek or has been replaced by river. Check out the pictures...

Hey, dangus, that looks like an awesome trip. Nice pictures. And you're riding a KLR 650 - the bike that I would've picked over the BMW's that Ewan and Charley used. How'd they do?
